The prize has been awarded to Belarusian Lawyer Yuliya Yurhilevich who, on July 26, 2023, was sentenced to 6 years of prison in a general security facility for her activities aimed at defending activists&#8217; human rights and opposers of the regime.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>MARCH 14, 2024<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights, in collaboration with the Court of Cassation, organizes the conference &#8220;Revision and European Revocation after the Cartabia reform: state of the art and development prospects&#8221;. The event was organized under the patronage of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>NOVEMBER 20, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In occasion of the 34th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the conference entitled &#8220;The child today&#8221; was organized by Lawyer Guia Tanda, Guarantor for the Rights of Childhood and Adolescence at the Liguria Region. The conference was held in collaboration with the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights and other entities and forensic associations.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>NOVEMBER 10, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On November 10, 2023, the 23rd edition of the specialization course on &#8220;European Protection of Human Rights&#8221; organized by the Forensic Union for the Protection of Human Rights, began. The course, first of its kind in Italy, is held by leading experts in the field and is aimed at studying the functioning of the system of protection of fundamental rights, with a particular focus on the mechanism of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the safeguards provided for in the European Union law.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>OCTOBER 6, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On October 6, 2023, the introductory meeting of the specialization course for Lawyers in &#8220;Safeguard of Human Rights and International Protection&#8221; was held. The course is organized by the National School of Advanced Training of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTMBER 28, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Conference &#8220;The Principle of non-discrimination and the ECHR. Focus LGBTQIA+. Gestational Surrogacy. Homo-transphobia and tools for legal protection.\u201d was organized by the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights in collaboration with the University of Bologna. Held at the Faculty of Law of the aforementioned university, the Conference was attended by Lawyer Prof. Lana and Lawyer Di Nardo, Coordinator of the Emilia-Romagna Section of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTEMBER 25, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Sicily-Messina Section of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights organized the Conference entitled &#8220;The lawyer for the protection of foreigners: technical profiles and practical applications of the specialization in migration law&#8221;. Lawyer Prof. Lana introduced and concluded the meeting. The conference was attended by numerous Lawyers participating as speakers, including Lawyer Villari, Coordinator of the Sicily-Messina Section of Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights, Lawyer Lo Giudice, Lawyer Savio, Lawyer Campochiaro and Lawyer Sangiorgi.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTEMBER 22, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On September 22, 2023, at the seat of the Council of the Rome Bar Association, located at the Palazzo di Giustizia, the jury of the International Human Rights Prize Ludovic Trarieux gathered. The jury, made of 26 European lawyers, awarded the prize to Belarus lawyer Yuliya Yurhilevich, who, on July 26, 2023, was sentenced to six years in prison in a penal colony for defending human rights activists and opponents of the regime. Lawyer Prof. Anton Giulio Lana and Lawyer, Francesco Rossi attended on behalf of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTEMBER 20, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On September 20, 2023, the conference &#8220;Temporary protection: exceptional regime or model for the future&#8221; was organized by the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights to address the topic of temporary protection. Lawyer Prof. Lana, together with the President of the Bar Association of Brescia, Lawyer Rocchi, gave the opening remarks. The meeting was attended by numerous speakers, including Prof. Hein, Prof. Di Pascale, Prof. De Capitani, Dr Pipponzi, Prof. Di Stasio, and Lawyer Neri, followed by the conclusions by Lawyer Regina and Lawyer Sangiorgi.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JULY 11, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On July 11, 2023, the online conference &#8220;Individual appeals to the European Court of Human Rights&#8221; was held. Organized by the Council of the Rome Bar Association in collaboration with the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights, the event was held online via the YouTube channel of the Rome Bar Association. Opening remarks were given by Lawyer Nesta, Resident of the Bar Association of Rome. Afterwards, Lawyer de Stefano, Lawyer Prof. Lana, Lawyer Prof. Saccucci and Lawyer Sangiorgi attended as speakers.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JUNE 16, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On June 16, 2023, in Amsterdam, the ceremony for the award of the Ludovic Trarieux International Prize 2022 was held. The prize was assigned to the Iranian Lawyer Amirsalar Davoudi, arrested in 2018 and sentenced to 30 years in prison and 111 lashes. Prof. Lawyer Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights, gave the speech on behalf of the jury that identified Davoudi as the winner of the prize. Lawyer Bertrand Favreau, President of the Institut des Droits de l&#8217;Homme des Avocats Europ\u00e9ens (IDHAE), delivered the prize to Amirsalar Davoudi\u2019s wife, since the Lawyer is still in prison.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JUNE 15, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On June 15, 2023, the conference entitled &#8220;Migrants: the balance between needs of special protection and social security\u201d. The protection of fundamental rights of the individual&#8221;, was held. The meeting, which took part in the Conference Room of the Caritro Foundation in Rovereto, was moderated by Lawyer Valentina Rao, coordinator of the Trentino-Alto Adige Section of the Forensic Union for the protection of human rights and was opened by remarks from Lawyer Andrea Tomasi, President of the Board of Lawyers of Rovereto. The meeting was attended by Lawyer Alessio Sangiorgi, member of the steering committee of the Forensic Union for the protection of human rights; Lawyer Mario Melillo, Secretary General of the Forensic Union for the protection of human rights; and Lawyer Fulvio Carlin from the Trento Forum.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>MAY 10, 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On May 10, 2023, the conference on &#8220;Status filii (status of children) and maternity for others: the safeguard of fundamental rights and freedoms\u201d was held in Trento. The meeting, moderated by Lawyer Valentina Rao, coordinator of the Trentino-Alto Adige Section of the Forensic Union for the protection of human rights, was attended by Lawyer Prof. Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights. In addition, the meeting was attended by Lawyer Antonio Angelini, President of the Trento Bar Association\u2019s Council, who addressed the opening remarks; Prof. Simone Penasa, professor of comparative private law at the University of Trento; and Lawyer Andre de Bertolini of the Forum of Trento.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>MARCH 4, 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On 4 March, 2022, the meeting entitled &#8220;Unaccompanied foreign minors&#8221; was held as part of the Course on Immigration Law, organized by the Human Rights Commission of the Council of the Bar Association of Torre Annunziata. The conference, moderated by Lawyer Maria Formisano, was attended by Lawyer Tiziana Arcoraci, tutor for unaccompanied minors at the forum of Messina, Dr Carmela Grimaldi, social worker, and Lawyer Prof. Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Forensic Union for the protection of Human Rights. The meeting also hosted the testimony of the Lawyer Roberta Annarita Cuomo, from the Association for social promotion \u201cUBUNTU\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>DECEMBER 22, 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Conference entitled &#8220;Migrazioni e diritti procedural-processuali nel sistema CEDU&#8221;. The meeting, held at the Aula Magna of the Judicial Citadel of Salerno, was attended by lawyer and professor Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani, who spoke to present the Observatory on ECHR jurisprudence launched by Union and funded by the Fondazione Terzo Pilastro Internazionale. The event included the official presentation of the ECHR Observatory launched by UFDU, designed by lawyer and professor Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani, and funded by the Fondazione Terzo Pilastro Internazionale. The meeting was also attended by, among others: Gaetano Di Muro, Coordinator of the Bari section of the Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani, Andrea Saccucci, Professor of International Law at the University of Campania L. The meeting, streamed on the GoToMeeting platform, was attended by the lawyer Antonietta Confalonieri, Coordinator of the Sardegna section of UFDU, and Silvia Ricci, Coordinator of the Umbria section.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>OCTOBER 13, 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Department of Political and Legal Sciences of the University of Messina hosted a meeting on &#8220;Cambiamenti climatici e migranti ambientali&#8221;. Il ruolo della Comunit\u00e0 Internazionale\u201d. The meeting, held in blended mode and streamed on the Jitsi platform, was attended, among others, by: lawyer Loredana Zaccari, President of the Perugia section of ADGI, lawyer Maria Concetta Falivene, Regional Authority for Childhood and Adolescence of Abbruzzo, Ambassador Fabrizio Lobasso, Deputy Director Africa MAECI, former Italian Ambassador in Khartoum, and lawyer Paola Regina, Coordinator of the Lombardia section of UFDU.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTEMBER 30, 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Milan Bar Association and the Milan Law School organized a webinar entitled \u201cEntrata in vigore del protocollo 15 CEDU e sorti del protocollo 16. Speakers at the meeting included, among others, lawyer and professor Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani, Dr. Roberto Reali, President of the Court of Rome, Prof. Vincenzo Mastronardi, Psychiatrist, clinical criminologist and psychotherapist, lawyer Alessandro Bucca, President of the Italian Association of Vulnerable Victims. The meeting was moderated by lawyer Arianna Agnese, President of the Italian Association of Victims of Crime.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTEMBER 18, 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Castiglione del Lago organized the ceremony for the naming of a street after Tina Lagostena Bassi. The conference entitled &#8220;Nel segno di Tina Lagostena Bassi, mai pi\u00f9 violenza sulla violenza&#8221; was held in the setting of Palazzo della Corgna and was introduced by the string ensemble of the Trasimeno school of music. The Mayor of the Municipality of Castiglione del Lago, Matteo Burico, the President of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Castiglione del Lago, Rosella Paradisi, the Honorable Laura Boldrini, the magistrate and politician Anna Finocchiaro, the State Councillor Raffaele Sestini and the lawyer and professor Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani Took attended the event. The meeting was moderated by journalist Elena Teatini.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JULY 16, 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Signing of the memorandum of understanding between the National Bar Association and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), aimed at promoting the culture of legality and respect for the rights of migrants, including through the development of responsible behavior of the operators of the jurisdiction involved, as well as promoting the joint implementation of information and training initiatives. One of the objectives of the agreement is to raise awareness on the subject via specific training, facilitated by the recent approval of the decree on specialisation which identified human rights as a specific training profile. This is a commitment in the field of human rights that will allow lawyers to have the tools and weapons to give contemporary answers to a contemporary phenomenon.\u00a0 It is also an opportunity to give a more complete response and allow lawyers to be allies in the challenge that immigration poses to us. The program will be implemented through the establishment of a coordinating committee consisting of four members, two appointed by the CNF (Franceso Caia and Anton Giulio Lana) and two by the IOM (the Director of the Mediterranean Coordination Office, Laurence Hart, and the Project Development Officer).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JULY 8, 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The law firm Di Tosto and the law firm Buonuomo &amp; Partners organized an online conference entitled &#8220;Nuove frontier nel diritto di famiglia\u201d which was held in streaming on the Zoom platform. The purpose of the event was to remember the story of Ebru Timtik, a Turkish lawyer, arrested together with her sister Barkin Timtik, after they had both suffered many persecutions due to their legal advice given to political dissidents accused of terrorism. Timtik died following a hunger strike undertaken with the aim of obtaining a fair trial. The Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani (UFDU) and the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale pour les Droits Humains (FIDH) have submitted a joint request for third-party intervention, pursuant to Article 36 ECHR, to the European Court of Human Rights. The request to submit observations as <em>amicus curiae<\/em>, concerned 10 complaints brought by some migrants from Italian reception centers, about the lack of respect of adequate standards in hotspots, according to European and international law. UFDU and FIDH intended to prove that the aforementioned practices violated the ECHR and in particular Articles 3, 5 and 13 and Article 4 of Protocol 4 of the Convention.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SEPTEMBER 24, 2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On September 24, 2020, the jury for the award of the 2020 Ludovic Trarieux International Prize met in Geneva. The jury is composed of 28 European lawyers, representing lawyers from all over Europe. Lawyer and professor Anton Giulio Lana, President of the Unione forense per la tutela dei diritti umani, and Lawyer Alessio Sangiorgi, member of the Executive Board of the UFDU, were appointed as members of the jury representing the association. This year, the Prize was jointly awarded to Ebru and Barkin Timtik, two Turkish sisters and lawyers who were arrested in 2017 after much persecution due to their legal advice given to political dissidents accused of terrorism. After years of trials and pre-trial detention, Ebru Timtik went on a hunger strike demanding a fair trial, which resulted in her death after 238 days of protest. Her sister, Barkin Timtik is currently in prison, while her case is still pending before the Court of Cassation.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>JULY 7, 2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Strasbourg, Communication to the Italian State from the European Court of Human Rights. Following the discriminatory advertisement published by the local newspaper Porta Portese in 2006 and 2007, where owners and employers expressly excluded immigrants and foreigners from their offers, UFDU took the case to the European Court of Human Rights in 2012. In its appeal, UFDU claimed that the Italian State is in violation of the ECHR for the failure of the judicial authorities to condemn the discriminatory nature of the ads. The case is pending before the Court.
