On October 18, 2024<\/b>, an International Conference on the impact of the European Convention on Human Rights in domestic legal systems will be held in Rome at the Chamber of Deputies in Palazzo Montecitorio<\/b> (Mappamondo Room – 4 p.m.).<\/p>\n

The Conference is organized by the Institut des droits de l’homme des avocats europ\u00e9ens<\/i> (IDHAE<\/b>), a nongovernmental organization – chaired by lawyer Prof. Anton Giulio Lana – dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights and the defense of lawyers whose freedom to practice is threatened throughout the world<\/b>, and the University of Rome UnitelmaSapienza, Department of Law and Digital Society, directed by Prof. Mario Carta.<\/p>\n

After addresses of greetings by Ms. Laura Boldrini<\/b>, Mr. Francesco Greco, Prof. Anton Giulio Lana and Prof. Mario Carta, the event will include a lectio magistralis<\/i> by former<\/i> President of the European Court of Human Rights, Guido Raimondi<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Following this, several European lawyers experienced in human rights litigation from IDHAE will give papers on the impact of the ECHR in their respective legal systems. Specifically, Mr. Bertrand Favreau, President of the International Human Rights Prize \u201cLudovic Trarieux<\/i>\u201d, will discuss the impact of the Convention in the French legal system. Mr. Thierry Bontinck, treasurer of IDHAE, will address the Belgian legal system, and Ms. Giulia Jaeger, Secretary General of IDHAE, will focus on the Luxembourg legal system. This will be followed by the conclusions of Mr. Christophe Pettiti, Vice President of IDHAE.<\/p>\n

At the end of the conference, Ms. Laura Boldrini, Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Rights in the World<\/b>, will present in the hands of the Minister for Human Rights of the Burmese Government of National Unity in Exile Aung Myo Min<\/b> the International Human Rights Prize \u201cLudovic Trarieux<\/i>\u201d, awarded by the Jury to Burmese lawyer Ywet Nu Aung<\/b>, sentenced in 2022 to 15 years in prison for her profession in support of the opponents of the ruling military junta and still in prison. Finally, the Jury of the \u201cLudovic Trarieux<\/i>\u201d Prize will dedicate a special mention to the Law Society of Northern Ireland, recognized as \u201cBar of the Year 2024<\/i>\u201d<\/b> for its commitment to serving the independence of lawyers, for its exemplary struggle to protect the rule of law, and for the retaliation it has suffered as a result of its work to ensure respect for human rights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
